The Patras SMART Cafè took place on June 28th in the Patras Science Park involving 23 participants that represent regional stakeholder interested in the context of increasing employment via the lauch of new innovative companies.

The event focussed on two themes for discussion:

  • Business and Entrepreneurial culture and Education;
  • Actions for supporting New Technology based firms.

In sum the outcomes of the discussion, which all participants agreed upon, are threefold: a) There is a pool of specialized human capital in the Region of Western Greece, b) there are serious impediments in communication and coordination between the stakeholders involved, and 3) different opinions on the subject have been expressed and there is no unanimity on what needs to be done.

Finally, it has been agreed to proceed with the following next steps:

  • Mapping of the ‘supply’ side of innovation and the Institutional cooperation channels with respect to innovation activities, through the construction of information system for know-how and technology transfer (stakeholder in charge is the University of Patras Technology Transfer office)
  • The establishment of Innovation Cafes
  • Establishment of an Innovation Hub in one of abandoned properties belonging to the Municipality of Patras in order for the local market to ‘connect’ with global innovation platforms.

Last but not least, the attending participants have agreed to support all the above mentioned initiatives and to proceed towards the direction of coordination among them and bridging the gaps among the scattered dots in the Regional Innovation System.
